Hello wisdom-seekers,
I’m back from holiday and seeking a revolution. But, as that last part seems like a long term project, let’s try for something simple, like a few cartoons.
This week we look at the world from a cat’s point of view, and wonder if anything is really worth queuing for.
Waiting in line,
Chris

Caption: “Everything the light touches, from the organic brewery to the all-night discount grocer, is our kingdom.”
Deny it all you want, but the truth is: cats own everything.
Whether it’s that sweater you really like, that meal you just cooked, or the streets and stores below, you can be pretty sure that a cat will claim ownership of it.
And, with faces like that, would you ever deny them?
A little artist’s note: Oh boy, this one was complicated to draw. All those little windows. And it’s a lot more detail than I normally would do, but I distinctly remember having a bit of spare time on my hands on a Sunday morning and deciding that this would be an excellent way to spend/waste that time.
Fun fact, the idea for this came after visiting some friends in Brooklyn and meeting their two cats. It made me wonder what these inner-city cats thought when they looked out that window. The original caption even had their street names, but I won’t mention those here.
But throw in a Lion King reference, and you’ve got a full cartoon.

Who wants to queue? Anyone? Anyone?
Because the main thing I do in queues is try and guess how long I’ll have to wait. Will it be minutes? Will it be hours? I can ask the staff, but unless they’re a keen observer of the dining human condition, they probably won’t know much more than I will.
How long will you wait?
A little artist’s note: This is one of those cartoons where I knew exactly what I wanted it to be. There was no second guesses, no umming and ahhing. No nothing. I knew that I wanted it to feel like it was a circus side show combined with a busy restaurant. And I knew I wanted it to be a modified scale to match those weight-guessing things you find at the carnival. The rest just fell together.
Okay, in truth, there was a lot of umming and ahhing. Like, is this the right angle? Does the scale look right? Is the clock round enough? Does it even look like a clock. But then, after a bit of sketching, it came together. Like it is here.
Of course, the heart of it is the whole weight vs wait thing. But you knew that, right?
