Hello titans of industry,
It’s a Thursday, and that means a nice little set of cartoons.
This week, we talk about Oscar winning films and overloaded toolkits.
Keepin’ on moving,
Chris

It was the Oscars this week! The biggest battle for best of the best.
I love films and I quite enjoy the Oscars. But, sometimes, I see the films nominated that are based on true events and I think: “This is definitely not how the people who lived through this event thought it would be remembered.”
A little artist’s note: I really do like the Oscars. I mean, it’s all a bit chaotic and self-congratulatory, but it’s a fun night of celebration.
And this year, like last year, I tried to do a cartoon that would celebrate this night. Although, I’ll admit, I was a little disorganised. I must have sat with my notepad open for quite a while trying to find the right concept and, the longer I pondered it, the less time I had to make it. Finally, I hit on the concept of this cartoon and I knew that drawing two people looking at their phones would be an easy and fast thing to create.
If you’re wondering, this was last year’s Oscar cartoon:

I think I’ve bought this toolset multiple times over.
Sometimes I kind of know what the tools are for, other times I just stare at them and wonder if I can somehow find a use. And then I end up using the tool for any reason other than what it was made for.
And, you know what, I’ll probably end up doing it again.
A little artist’s note: Tools. So many tools.
Sometimes, a tool wall feels a little like an orchestra. There are a lot of instruments and some of them only do, perhaps, one thing. They do it well, of course, but the rest of the time the instrument just sits around while the more versatile instruments do their thing. The tool wall is the same.
So when it came time to put together this cartoon, the challenge was to feature as many tools as I could, without them becoming a distraction to people. Was I successful? Maybe.
