#49: A name, and a scare
Hello explorers,
It’s once again a Thursday, and with it comes all the spoils that only a couple of cartoons can provide.
This week, we visit an awkward check-in and see a couple of monsters thinking about their future.
Hiding out,
Chris

Does this happen to you? This happens to me.
I mean, I’m hopeless at remembering other people’s names. Just hopeless. But sometimes, when I’m checking into a hotel, maybe after a really long flight (which is a fairly common thing for Australians going anywhere), I get to that counter to fill out that obligatory paperwork and I just have a complete mental blank. Whatever my name is, at the time I just don’t know it.
Can you relate?
A little artist’s note: This one was drawn quickly, and it shows.
This week was a bit busy. Work was busy. Life was busy. And drawing kind of took a back seat. So when I was choosing what to draw, it was less about ‘What is funny’ and more about ‘What is going to be simple to make’. Now, usually when I aim for something simple, the opposite occurs and I end up having to spend a whole lot of time on some tiny detail that I really didn’t think of when I came up with the idea. For this one, though, I simply didn’t have the time to spare, so it arrives to you as-is. Few bells, even fewer whistles. Could the hotel have more detail? Perhaps. But, in my experience, hotel check-ins tend to look super minimalist these days. And that is reflected here.
Could probably use some more props, though.

Maybe you’ll get this, maybe you won’t. Or maybe this is you.
Relationships are tough. Work is tough. Work as a monster under a bed is tough. Work as a monster whose partner is also a monster who works under the same bed is tough. I guess I would say that it’s tough all round. Just like this cartoon.
Enjoy! Or don’t.
A little artist’s note: This cartoon has sat in my to-post pile for a few weeks, and all the time it was tinged with a will-I-post-it/won’t-I-post-it sort of mentality. It’s weird, I know it’s weird. But, every week I would come back to it and say, I just like it.
Visually, it’s actually quite a complicated cartoon. You’ve got the monsters hiding out under the bunk bed. You’ve got the grown kids in the bunk bed, you’ve got the shading to make it night. And you’ve got everything having to work together to keep it afloat and maintain the magic, so to speak.
Although, perhaps the most complicated part of this cartoon is the bunk beds, because they’re actually pretty complicated things to draw. It’s also missing a ladder, I know, but I figure they will climb up one of the ends. Again, complexities.
