#59: Breaking Boulders and Baby Monsters
Hello titans of industry,
The sun is out, the moon is right, the table is set. It’s time for another round of cartoons.
This week, we have a little bit of self-help, and a monster/baby.
Keeping tabs,
Chris

It’s a SISYPHUS cartoon!
It’s also my first Sisyphus cartoon. I’m sure you all know the theory. You want to get something done, so you break it down into smaller pieces. But can this apply to other things? Like, say, to a giant boulder being endlessly pushed up a hill?
I would like to think so. Would you?
A little artist’s note: Like I note above, this is my first Sisyphus cartoon.
The Sisyphus myth is kind of a rite of passage for a cartoonist, much like the desert island or the tunnel of love (see last week). Everyone has at least one take on it, but likely many more and this here, is my first. If you don’t know the story of Sisyphus, and you can’t be bothered looking it up, it’s basically about a really horrible tyrant who was cursed by the gods to endlessly push a boulder up a hill.
What this cartoon aims to do is take that endless task and give it a little touch of modern professional development. You know, because that’s what it needed, right?

Is there a monster under your bed?
Humans have babies, monsters have babies. Human babies need monsters under their beds, monster babies appear. Adorable chaos ensues.
Have you checked under your cot?
A little artist’s note: I’ve sat on this idea for quite a while now.
I love it, I really do, and it kind of serves as a prequel to my earlier cartoon about monsters, but it also stands up simply because of the awwww factor. Visually, it took a bit of working, mostly because, the idea is as much about getting the location details in there as it is about the monsters. In the end, I decided to add a border around it as I had drawn so much of the rest of the room that it was started to get distracting.
Oh, and here is that earlier cartoon:
