#69: Summer to-go
Hello fighters,
When is a cartoon more than a cartoon? When does it hurdle over the boundaries and out into the wider wilderness? Why, when it appears here.
This week, we see climate change from a new perspective, get some dinner to go, and take one more leap for the Olympics.
Taking a leap,
Chris

It’s Mojito season. All year round.
Won’t somebody think of the penguins? Those melting polar ice caps cause a lot of issues, including for penguins. I mean, sure, who doesn’t like a summery drink? But I’m pretty sure all year round isn’t what penguins had in mind.
Sometimes you just don’t want an endless summer.
A little artist’s note: If you read last week’s newsletter, you would know I’ve been doing some travelling for work recently, and this has meant that my usual output has been dampened somewhat. Meaning, as I was waiting on my twice delayed flight out of New York on the weekend, I realised I didn’t have anything to offer this week but this cartoon, which I drew one exhausted night in my hotel room.
Conceptually, I like this. I also just like the concept of summery drinks and small umbrellas, because, you know, who doesn’t, right? Visually, this comes from my, let’s say, modern era. So the shading is quite nice, as is the overall composition. Really, I’m actually pretty happy with this one.

Would you remember?
You know how it is. Your dinner yields leftovers. You decide the best course of action is to get these leftovers to go because, surely you’re going to want to eat them again. And then, the hours, days, weeks drift by and you’ve moved on to other foods.
And, actually, maybe you don’t want it after all.
A little artist’s note: I drew this one all the way back in March as part of a submission to The New Yorker. It didn’t make the cut, but I’ve always really liked it. It feels oddly relatable to me.
Visually, this one is pretty simple. Two people, a candlelit dinner at a pasta restaurant, and some leftover spaghetti bolognaise. So, all the good things, really.
I’m sure we could all use a wine right now, but especially Paris.
Drawn in airport waiting areas, I feel like this encapsulates everything the Parisians would be going through as their Olympics draw to a close.
Make the jump.
A little artist’s note: What can I say, I just like this one. I umm’d and ahh’d as to whether to post it, but I realised that if I didn’t post it now, I might never have a moment to. So, here we are! Enjoy!
