Hello fighters,
No matter what your week brings, know that there are always cartoons. Sweet, glorious cartoons.
This week, we see some timely birthday advice, and ponder the fall of Rome from a very different angle.
Keeping the fires burning,
Chris

Caption: “Just write enough to make them feel guilty about throwing it away.”
How will you fill that birthday card?
Are you a ‘to’ and ‘from’ sort of person, or do you write a novel? Or maybe just a novella? Or is it nothing but drawings of balloons like I used to do?
Whatever you add to your cards, just be sure to write enough to make them feel guilty about throwing it away.
A little artist’s note: Conceptually and visually, this one is pretty simple and to the point. I considered a whole lot more detail here, but in the end I realised it just didn’t need it. Voila!
Caption: “Perhaps list Rome as a depreciating asset.”
How often do YOU think about the Roman Empire?
Do you think that Caesar, when he knew the writing was on the wall, went straight to his accountant to see what he could write-off?
I think this what happened.
A little artist’s note: I’m actually not sure how many people this cartoon will really resonate with. Do people get the idea of a depreciating asset? Have I chosen a topic that really only makes sense to me and a bunch of accountants? I actually don’t know, but I really like this joke, even if it’s just for me.
Visually, this is simple enough, although it was also drawn all the way back in February 2024, which might not seem like a long time, but my style has evolved quite a bit since then, so it feels a little outdated to me now.
But, you know, maybe that’s just me.
Thanks for reading MiddleSquiggle!
